Denise was born in Washington, DC and raised in Prince George's County Maryland. A recent Bachelor of Science in Fashion Merchandising and Management graduate from Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) with 20 years’ experience in the field of Early Childhood Education. During the latter portion of Denise's high school career, she awakened her interior and fashion design skills and later served as Assistant to her crafts teacher in 12th grade after enjoying the course the prior year. These courses had a major influence on Denise's academic decision that led her to attend The Art Institute of Philadelphia (AIPH) in 1996 where she studied Fashion Design before later transferring to SNHU in 2013. While at AIPH, Denise studied Art History and completed final exams at both the Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Incorporating art into her daily routine, Denise passionately introduced an age-appropriate marbling craft to her preschoolers. While teaching full-time and completing her fashion program, Denise started her Paint Consulting business in 2019 coordinating paint parties with families, religious organizations, and corporations like Fannie Mae for their annual Teambuilding and Professional Development Day. Paint consulting led Denise into Paint Pouring, which reminded her of the marbling she did in high school with her favorite art teacher. Denise has displayed her work at prominent places like The Fillmore Silver Spring with the RAW Artists community, participated in a Creative Chat interview with CB Creates, and featured in the magazine Shoutout LA. Denise is Artist Partner with the Creative Suitland Art Center where her studio space is located. She also worked with the Prince George's Arts & Humanities Council at their Art Gallery, Arts'tination as Coordinator during the summer of 2022. Denise was recently selected to have her latest art piece titled; “Celebrate Freedom” installed at a new locally black-owned restaurant named Bistro 64◦ in District Heights Maryland.
She is now teaching art full-time.
I currently use acrylic paint as my medium mixed with water and/or a pouring medium which makes it fluid on canvas. Depending on the technique, silicone is also added to a select acrylic for cell activation. I like the raw nature of a finished painting, so varnishes and glosses are rarely used.
I enjoy tracking trends and pull my inspiration from current fashion styles in addition to elements of basic design and color theory into a composition. That's where the "acrylic art with style" comes into play!
